Introduction
The right of Cheryl Sardine Cottrell to be indentified as Author of this work has been asserted by her in accordance with the Copyright, Design and Patents Act 1988.

Welcome to my website. It is still very much under construction and there is much more to come but I am sure that you will find something of interest here about St Vincent & the Grenadines or Madeira and of course my family. The site will be updated on a regular basis with both additions and changes to keep the content as fresh as I can.
The style of the site regarding the histories is very much ‘warts and all’ and is intended to be an honest reflection of the various histories. What detail is not mentioned here will be in a separate manuscript which will be published in due course.

Unfortunately I do not have a picture of Joao Sardinha de Paiva's wife Mathilda. There were two pictures at Camden Park, one very large, framed hanging on the wall the other was a smaller one framed, sitting on the Piano at Sisters Cottage in Camden Park. The large one was stolen, and the other removed to get a copy and to be returned, it never was. If anyone can provide a picture it would be most welcome.
I have circulated copies of Joao Sardinha de Paivas picture to quite a few family members, this being the only picture that survived. It was given to my dad Monty by his father, and Dad made a copy for his brother Winston. No other copies of this picture existed and it has been in my possesion along with my Grandfather Edgerton's memorandum, since dad died in 1986. I do have some history that my dad had documented before he died and I fortunately have all his papers, as I am the one in the Sardine family who has taken on this project along with my husband.
I have traveled to Madeira many times in search of my family roots and I have made headway in some of the family branches but still have a long way to go, but I will get there, some times one has to change direction and this is where I am, at the moment.
I have put some of the surnames just for now, and if anyone out there who are familiar with some of the names and are from Madeira, please feel free to contact me at my mail address.

My Aims

There are a number of goals for this site.
Firstly to celebrate the life of my father Joffre Nicholas Montmorency Sardine and his wife Hyacinth. He was a man who worked hard all his life and helped everyone he could.
Secondly to look at the history of our name and other family roots and the islands of St Vincent and the Grenadines and Madeira where we have primarily hailed from and grown up.
Thirdly, to post some family and historic photographs.
Lastly, to help my visitors with some useful location and genealogy links.
There will also be some miscellaneous content which I hope you will find of interest.

Your Host

I am Cheryl your host for this site. At the moment on a steep learning curve concerning this site. My interests are of course the genealogy of my family, gardening and threadwork such as cross stitch and Tapistry. I moved to the UK in 1983 where I still reside.
Some of the pages on the site will be password protected to limit information to those genuinely interested and some will be open but I would ask all visitors to respect the copyright of the content in any event.
